Good evening folks,

It has been a long time since I have been on this forum. I randomly came across some American cast iron in a thrift shop the other day, which as some of you know, is hard to come by in Vancouver. It made me smile and think of you all. I hope you are all well. My research tells me it is a Birmingham Stove and Range, Century Series, 3 quart sauce pan with lid, but do correct me if I am wrong. The price was $25, I had a $10 coupon so I paid CAD$15. I felt compelled to buy it and clean it up for old time sake.

Hi Mary, so nice to hear from you.  You got a steal on that one.  Do let us see it once you have it cleaned up.  So glad you thought of us.

Hi Roger, thanks for your comment. Is it a steal? What are they worth?

 MARY!!  What a pleasant surprise!  I've missed you and think of you every time I stream CBC Radio!

Hope all is well on your side of the 49th Parallel!

That's a nice sauce pan you picked up.  I don't know the value of it, but any CI that nice for under $20 is always a steal especially with a lid.

Mary, A big howdy & :welcome: back from out in Texas! GREAT find as is anything these days with a lid on it! Use to occasionally find lids down in this part of the country but they are few and far between these days. In some cases they are known to double the value the vessel under them as a "set"! :scratchchin: Those little pans always command second looks when I set up to sell. Again, welcome back!

Hello Sandy!

Nice to hear from you, thank you for your kind comment. I think of you, and many others from time to time, who were kind and helpful to me on this forum. I am impressed that you listen to CBC! Thanks for your comment about the pan. I hope you and yours are doing well!

Hi Duke!

Thanks for the kind howdy. It's funny, when I picked up the pan, I though the lid was mismatched to the pan, and was of east Asian origin. I was really surprised that it was the proper lid. It has an odd handle, the hole in it would allow a person to use a stick or wooden spoon to move it around, I don't find the handle that practical otherwise, but I have hand issues. Thanks for letting me know that the lid doubles the value.!

Mary, technically speaking, we would 'expect' to see a slightly different lid with that stew pan.... BUT.... I do not rule out that during the change over in the 60's, there may have been a combination of old stock (stew pan itself) with 'new' stock of the tab style lids.   :cheesy:

Hello folks,

Okay, so I pulled the lid out of the lye bath and it looks good to go. The pot had to go back in because of crud around the heat ring that hasn't completely come off. I notice that the inside bottom of the pot is black. I think it might be scorched? Is that a thing? Or could that be something else?
