Texas Weather 2-4-22...
« on: February 04, 2022, 08:49:44 AM »
Woke up this morning to 20 degrees and a landscape cover with a solid sheet of ice. No movement out here in suburbs.
Say we "might" make it up to a grand total of 32 degrees by late afternoon.

Hang tight Duke. I was hoping to hear better news than that from Texas. It is 67F today here in North Carolina. We had just a little rain.

Russell, We did get about 3" of very badly needed rain ahead of the ice storm. Seems strange to be in a burn ban this time of year. Now, here at 4 in the afternoon,  sun shining and majority of the ice has melted. Nothing like that TOUGH week long storm we had last year when millions were without power!

I had just enough ice to make my deck and ramp slick. A box of salt made it possible for Mindie and I to get to our vehicles and to work.  My sympathies, Duke, for the white stuff, but happy that you got some much needed rain. Should let the Bluebonnet seeds sprout and turn everything  blue in a month or so.

We received a glorious 9/10's of an inch of rain last night!!! First rainfall in what seemed to be MONTHS. Thank The Lord! Fireworks sale people already hollering to lift burn ban! Grass and brush fires have been everywhere as of late.

Between the high pressure dome and the "cold" front pushing in from the northeast, the only rain falling in this area is below I-10 or out in the Gulf.  The green horns and fools on the local channels are keeping a 10-20% chance on the board "just in case".  Al Roker's map shows solid green west of Austin all the way past El Paso.  Maybe you will get some more liquid sunshine.  East Texas remains "High and Dry".

Well, We're back in the ICE again!! Has been freezing or below with drizzle for about 36 hours. Nearly to the day, it did the same thing last year.
Cooked up a mess of mustard greens with plenty "pot licker" and scratch cornbread. All is clear and froze on the Central Texas Front. :beatdeadhorse5:

My sympathies, Duke.  So far, all I've seen in the last week has been lots of rain for a couple of days, a couple of days of light frost, and then a light mist over the last couple of days.  The freezing temps are not supposed  to extend east of B-CS, but this is Texas, so anything is possible. I was not quick enough with the salt on the first day of frost and Mindie's slick soled "VANS" were unable to provide traction on the ramp, and it was a repeat of last year.  Luckily, she was not hurt, only her pride was bruised.  More rain today and Thursday, with highs in the '40's, but sunshine predicted for Friday. Sounds like it is time to cook up a batch of venison chili, no beans please. :sm_usflag:

TEXAS...For sure NO BEANS  Daughter has ice in Brazos County.
Speaking of deer, my brother reported that this was the first year since 1984 that he hadn't got a deer with his bow. Said he could have harvested pick up loads of them but he is not into Collie dog size deer. They were all very poor. He said some processers had gone up 100-150% in price also! The drought this year REALLY hurt the growth cycle of the deer.

I haven't hunted in years (leases are too high for me) but a couple of friends bring me a few cuts of venison almost every year, so I manage to get a taste of the good stuff every once in a while. :hijack:

I never hunted dear. My brother supplies mine. I always hunted rabbits with Beagles.
