BSR Century Tea Kettle

Here is a BSR Century tea kettle I recently restored. It has some mild pitting from use on the inside bottom, but it has a lot of life left in it. BSR made these very durable. The Made in USA indicates a manufacture date circa 1970 or later. Tea kettles can be almost as tricky as waffle irons to clean, but this one cleaned up easily.

I found these photos on ebay. Note that the bottom of the tea kettle is marked exactly the same as the previous post, only the lid is unmarked. Except for the lack of markings, the lid looks like it fits. Not sure if this is an original BSR lid or a replacement lid.

A footnote for the future:  BSR actually did copy the Wagner teakettle... Circa
1980's I believe.  Dwayne can relate how we know.. I believe that info. came directly from Saunders... :)

That's good to know. The later Wagners do look just like it. I've seen some Asian (marked Made In China and Taiwan) kettles with similar designs. Wasn't sure if those parts would be interchangeable with a BSR or Wagner kettle; since the Asian lids are blank.

Russell, great job on the restoration! How did you clean the inside? I have a couple of old Lodge kettles and have never been able to remove all of the scale from the inside.

Same goes for the aluminum tea kettles I have. (In fact, they are far worse on the inside.)

This time I modified the rebar to contain 3 pieces zip tied together.
(I got lazy and only used 3. I was supposed to cut the 3 pieces in half, giving 6 pieces total. Sometimes you just gotta make an executive decision.)
Even though there are some pits in the bottom of this kettle, I picked it up due to the lack of rust inside it. I still had to scrub the inside, don’t get me wrong, but it was not as bad as the previous tea kettle I restored.
This is a solid kettle.
