Replacing a bale handle
« on: September 12, 2003, 06:28:19 AM »
I just got my Wagner square waffle iron a couple of days ago, and the bale handle is either a replacement, or wore out and the ends were cut and looped through again.  It doesn't work right, and I need to replace it.  Any suggestions????  I was not too happy, and the seller did offer to let me send it back.  Not his fault, I don't think he knew.  The iron is in great shape, other than the handle.

Actually I have never done it but I here that Lodge has replacement bails. You might be able to find something close from them.

Hey Marty you can go to lowes or homedepo and look in the hardware section and they will have some solid round rods that come in 1/6, 1/8, 1/4 inch I measured one of my wafle irons and the bail on it is 1/8 inch if you can match the size of your's you could just get a peice and bend it however you want, just a thought ;D

See, that rascal is at it again......trying to get my cast iron by knockin' me off!!!!!!!!!  I'm surprised he didn't tell me to fill my spiritburner with gunpowder, and stick primer cord into it and light it!!!!!  [smiley=oops.gif]

Greg, I think we need to add a section to the WAGS constitution:  No member may knock off another member in order to get his/her cast iron.  Any member who does so will be toasted over a spit, his/her ashes placed into a teflon pan and shipped to France.  Then his/her cast iron will be dispersed among the rest of the living membership.

Joe, thanks for your suggestion.  We have Home Depot here, so I will go out tomorrow, and get the 1/8" stuff.  I'll let you know how it goes.  When I die, I am going to leave YOU all my cast iron.  [smiley=clap.gif] [smiley=clap.gif] [smiley=clap.gif]

That ol' rascal is gonna get this  [smiley=anh1.gif]

Marty if one of us rednecks needed a bail handle, we would probably get some twine or wire we use for baling up hay or wheat.... [smiley=beerchug.gif] [smiley=biglaugh.gif]

Yes, but do you have bailing wire. A whole nuther class of "repair material". My Daddy bought a brand new JD tractor years ago and had some bailing wire on it in a week!

Bailing wire is right up there with the "handyman's secret weapon"... Duct Tape. Yeah, that's the ticket, you can put on your twine with duct tape. ;D

Bailing wire is ok if you just want to make something work. However, if you want to fix it then you need some number 9 gauge wire, now there's some stuff. You need pliers to bend it in short pieces but when you get it in place, it ain't going nowhere. In a pinch you could easlily make a bale out of number 9 wire.

I hadn't checked the rest of the responses for a few days......I think the twine and duct tape look like an easy option.  I have lots of that.

Troy, I looked at those handles, and I don't think they would work.  Dimensions are a bit short.  Thanks for looking for me.  That was nice of you.

I think Joe and Perry had the best suggestions.  I will try that number 9 gauge wire.  I think that will work just fine.
