DC,

Would this lodge with the heat ring be from the 40's, 50's, 60's?
The sides are much more thin than new Lodge Logic skillets.

I fried some eggplant that was picked from the garden this morning for breakfast. What a great user, for only $6.00!

Chub it is so hard to tell with some Lodge, my best guess because of the deeper notches is 1940-1960. That is per the Red Book. I'm hoping that others chime in.

You know, just this week I was wondering about those square cornered Lodge Skillets as well as the small raised molders mark. They nearly seem odd compared to all other Lodge skillets. Have seen some dutch ovens that are the same way. To know the period and WHY they went with this style would be interesting. :-/

On this particular style skillet, Lodge molded the bottom corner with a more square turn as opposed to a rounded corner. Where the bottom and sides meet so to speak.

Hello Duke, excuse me for asking again, but, I am not sure what skillet you are talking about either. There are two in this thread, the round one that Chub is talking about, which is a Lodge, and the other one is a Wagner breakfast skillet.

Perry, Duke is talking about the Lodge. He is refering to the angle that the sidewall has were it comes up from the bottom of skillet. The more modern Lodges have more of a radius than a sharp corner. DId that make sense? I found a photo of a newer one. You can see how rounded the the area where the side wall meets the bottom of the skillet.

Hello Chub, now we are not really just a Wagner and Griswold site. We collect, and discuss, and use many other brands of cast iron cookware as well. Its just that when those who made up the name WAGS, they wanted something easy on the tongue, and so WAGS kind of filled the need. But we do like others as well, names like Marion, Wapak, Martin, Savery, Favorite, Sidney Hollow Ware, Sidney, Birmingham, Stove, and Range, G.F. Filley, and Lodge, and a bunch more that I can't even think of off the top of my head.

In our foundry list that we maintain, we have hundreds of manufacturers who have come and gone.
