Well, it's only been 13 months since I got my "Perry's SS Barrel" and the great procrastinator finally has his electro cooker up and running.  I thought I'd add my pictures to Gary's thread and give you all a look at what took me so long.  It might inspire any other fellow procrastinators to get going.  I'm sure somewhere down the line, I'll have some more questions about all this, but maybe that will be in another thread.  Hope these pictures don't take up too much room.

Scott, that's a fine setup!  How did you attach your vise grips to the bar stock?  That appears to be a very solid way to make your connections.

Hello Ken,

I use 3/8" all-thread.  I had a  3/8" rod coupling welded to the side and to the adjustment screw of the vise-grips.  I then thread the all-thread into the rod coupling (depending which way I want the vise-grip to face) and tighten it up with a 3/8 x 16 nut.  Sometimes I may attach the vise-grip right to the cast iron, other times I use a c-clamp and attach the vise-grip to the c-clamp.  The all-thread allows me to change the depth of the cast iron in the stainless steel barrel.  Hope that helps some.

Glen, if you are referring to an electro for the inside of the DO, I simpley hang mine from the bale attachment point, so that it hangs sideways facing the anode. This has worked well for me. No need to place something inside the DO.

Also, while we are on this 'Perry's Stainless Steel Barrels' thread. I like the system that I use better than the barrels. The barrels are very good, don't get me wrong, but some folks are of the idea that the SS barrel is the best electro system out there. IMO, while it is good, its not the best. The system I use is just as good. Its the one that Cheryl uses. And I think that putting a shaped SS liner down inside of a plastic barrel, is like pounding sand down a rat hole.

Yup, got some of those ready too!  Will probably run small wooden dowel <stick> straight thru top edge to rest on outer edges of piece....  all depends on what I'm gonna clean! :-*

Yup, the plates are workin' very well for sure! So well, I am setting up a second electro... hope to pick up another battery charger at auction in the next coupla weeks! Can put another together in about 5.75 minutes!! ;)

Cheryl I have got my electro setup time down to three minutes and forty-nine seconds. And when I got it tore down by the way, I put a big green piece of plastic (leaf bag) over it to keep the water from evaporating.

Good Luck Adam... I've been looking for a stainless steel barrel...or ANY large round SS vessel for almost 2 years!  
Could buy a used one online, but just can't afford those kinda $$$! over $300 with shipping........ :(
Someday maybe I'll find something... I'd love to have a 360° setup to play with, but my 2 plate system works great!  
Pssst.... even Perry doesn't use 'his' barrel(s).... my system is designed after his! ;) ;) ;) ;)

Now Perry will tell ya to go to a scrap yard, but here in PA that doesn't work, cause they won't sell us private citizen's anything!

Even tried bidding last Sunday on a GIANT stainless stock pot... would have been a great electro for my smalls...... thought I won the bid for $62.50.... but they called another bidder number as the winner.... >:( >:(
So I left... don't like game playin'! ;)

I still think you can get all the SS you want, whether you live in PA or not. I could have a TON, thats two-thousand pounds of scrap SS in five minutes. And the barrells, yes Cheryl is right, I could have one of them for an electro, because I kept two of them for myself, but instead I have an electro like Cheryls and I use the SS barrells for lye baths. I sold those barrels for fifty dollars each plus shipping, which was about 15 to 20 dollars per barrell, and they weigh right at sixty pounds.

Adam, the big electro is a standard 55 gallon... it was a closed head, so I had to lop off the top... it is slightly narrower at the top.
(Note:  good thing I bought two of them, cause the first one I cut too low, and it turned into a floppy barrel!! :D :D)

I am happy to announce that I HAVE FINALLY FOUND SOME  OPEN HEAD RECLOSABLE BARRELS!!! here in Pa.!!! Straight sides!! In 55 gallon, 30 gallon, and 15 gallon sizes!!  Should I get blue or white??? :P

Just have to take the truck on a road trip to the mountains!
