Bail Handle in SCO?
« on: February 14, 2014, 09:48:09 AM »
Quick question, I recently bought a very nice #9 Griswold DO with bail handle.  Will the handle be ok at the temperatures of a SCO?

It can weaken the bail.  I don't recommend it.

That's what I was worried about.  The bad news is that I don't have a lye bath, and since I might be moving shortly, this is not a good time to set one up either.  On the positive side, the DO is not very dirty - mostly some very light surface rust.  The SCO might not have helped it much anyhow, and I can probably clean it to a good enough standard to allow me to season it without lye or other high tech contraptions.

The main reason I asked about the SCO is that I have a bunch of other stuff waiting to go in, and I was trying to decide if the DO should come along for the ride.  I guess I'll better give that a miss.
