With the flu and the worst of winter behind, I thought it was time to get back cleaning some cast iron. Well, I swished and swished around in my lye bath and this item was the only thing left in it. This tripod stand had more coats of paint on it than I have years on Earth collected, but finally, the lye, followed by electrolysis, managed to get it all off. The nuts and bolts holding it together were glued in place by the paint. Once the paint was gone, the bolts unscrewed easily - that was lucky.
I went ahead and seasoned it with two coats of Crisco. It sure looks better than when it had all those coats of different colored paint on it.
The one question I have about it if anyone knows, should there be a metal ring that sits on top of this stand? It just looks like the tip on the end on the legs should be holding something perhaps to better support the pot or kettle placed on the stand.
But yes, my lye bath is empty now.
