Griswold #2 WI

This one I found last month at estate sale that made me decide I better join WAGS and learn more. The ONE article I found in my research was from the archives of CICN which had a photocopy of an old Griswold catalog with the #2 displayed. I could barely see the markings on this when purchased, and was not in any way familiar with OLDER Griswold. missed on the photo, flip side plate marked 904.

That is a real beauty there Doug! Congratulations. Made in # 00, 0, 1 and #2. The #2 is the smallest. What a great find there, and in excellent shape.  These were based on the waffle iron patterns that Griswold bought from John Savery's Son & Co. in 1895.  My thoughts would be probably in the $ 700 + range, just as the Blue Book lists. Good pieces to collect. Well done.  Circa would be probably up to about 1930. They were still listed in Bulletin W-12, dated 1926.

Thanks for the timeline info, as I mentioned, I found the CICN archived article ( real limited info ) and did a WOW! Also in that "Pick" was the spider leg(?)ERIE DO with gatemark & Lid an another spider leg skillet w/lid, gatemarked, marked 11 on the handle and SY on the base, knew they were old even with my limited experience. These are no doubt my " Holy Grail" finds!  Gonna hold onto them for now cause I like lookin at em, but will eventually find a good home for them, some real collector will need to put the #2 in a good display! Excuse all my "look what I found enthusiasm", but i'm still stoked over my DUMB LUCK!

Hello Doug. Congratulations on your find. What is CICN? To call your find a mere 'waffle iron' is to a call a Jaguar JUST another car. Jim did an excellent run down of the Griswold history of that piece. I have that set and they are right up there with my favorite sets.

CICN - Cast Iron Collectors News, who listed WAGS as an excellent resource. I kinda thot CICN was related to WAGS as a published newsletter, but know that they did mention several other resource links.

The CICN Newsletters are available to the public on our General Board, and was published many years ago by Steve Stephens.

Our Webmaster Greg Stahl, with permission, paid to digitize the newletters (back in days before it could be done easily,  Technology marches forward  ;) ;) )

Well, Kudo's to Greg then, cause he did a great job making the CICN archived newsletters into a great resource site. I have gone back and read many of them just to get an idea of all the different aspects of CI collecting...now, if my memory just  had some space available to remember what I read...???

Good point Tom. I have taken the time to read each and every one of the Dave Smith Newsletters. They are time well spent and I would recommend them to anybody who wants to learn a lot of Cast Iron History along with who we are here at WAGS and how we got here. They are time well spent.  :)

OK, help this computer illiterate out, what is the " PDF Section" above. I looked at the home page headers, are you talking about the "Educational links" with the Reference books available???, or is there other linked resource sites ?

When on the Forum, scroll up to the WAGS Members area and look for a board called "Useful Links" (it's the next one down after the Convention Updates).  Click on it, then just scroll down until you see the Kettles 'N Cookware link.  Click on it.

And they are sitting in massive binders 5 feet away...
