Griswold 202 stove

Just looking around an antique mall and saw a Griswold #202 two burner stove.  Had a price tag of $70.00 on it.  Just wondering what the going price for a unrestored 202 stove is.  I have never restored a stove, but I know others have.

Hi Scott, Thats what I gave for mine about 5-6 years ago. Is the one you are looking at a short or tall leg? I have the short leg, the one in the Red Book is the tall.
If its in good shape I would go for it. I have restored a few and kept the 202 because the baffle around the burners helps protect it from the wind. I use it camping, works great!

Thanks John.  Maybe I'll check back at the mall and do a double check on it and buy it.  Did you have to do anything to convert it to propane??
It is the short leg model.

Forgive me if this is off track, but i been interested in these stoves, and im curious if they were originally made for natural gas, what was their intended purpose?  Doesnt seem like natural gas is very portable for camping like propane is.

Scott mine has the adjustable jet. (some do not, look at the front end of the valve where it goes in to the burner air intake, it will have a nut on the adjustable ones.) All I did was screw them to the smallest point. Then adjust the air intake to get a nice blue flame.

John,  I think this one also has the adjustable jets.  I tried to post a couple of pictures, but the picture files are too big to post and I don't know how to make the files smaller.  I think I may go back and get the stove.

I found this stove about a year ago, went back and its still there.  No cracks, looks all original, does have some corrosion issues you can see in the pics.  Valves turn, one really smooth, other one turns smooth but has a small bump feel half way through the turn.  Asking $75 but since its been there so long I may put in an offer, is it worth picking up or wait for better condition?

Jeffrey, That looks nothing like my 202. Mine is more like the one pictured in the RED book that has the ERIE tag and has the shield/baffles. IMO I don't think the newer 202 bring that much.

Thanks John. I got it all tore down and cleaned in process of painting now. Grates was near perfect.  some plating loss on the air vent covers. Both Orpheus was there but one is not original.  Looks almost like someone put a tip to a wire welding gun ground down in.  Got all but one screw out without problems but they are rough.  Does anyone know where to get the original style machine screws.  These are not the typical screws sold in modern hardware stores.  For now I am going to put polished brass screws in until I can find the original and hold on to the ones I took out.

Got it tore down through the etank polished all the plated parts in the tumbler and back together with high temp paint.  I will replace the Brass Screws when I get the new original replacements in.  The ole 502 was in pretty goood shape under all the crud
