I expected this to sell high $$, but I was surprised at the final $$$. Hard to find piece.

I was watching that one and was surprised at how high it went also.  The base was missing and I'm not sure if it would fit in a 1892 square wi base.  I sent the seller a note asking for the dimensions of the paddles and if his measurements were correct it was an 1/8" larger than the opening  of any of the 1892 square bases that I have.  I was hoping his measurement was off so I did throw in a snipe but wasn't even close to the ending price.  Mike

That is one nice wafer iron. I missed that one completely on Ebay. It was out of my range anyway. That is a great price concidering there is no base. Imagine if it had the base  :o

I THINK a regular base would have fit that, so the paddles are the prize. I saw it too, I figured it would go high, and so I didn't waste my snipe.  ::)

Imagine it having original base and the wooden cone for rolling the wafers on. It was furnished with every iron.  ::)

These paddles fit very well in the WI base BUT that is not the original base for them. They came with their own very distinct looking base and I have only seen one on a favories display. I have mine in the WI base and was perfectly happy until I saw the original set. :'( :'(

Harry, that base is very interesting!   First Wagner base of any type I've seen with those type of handles.

Harry also what are the dimensions of the paddles of the irons you have.  The seller of the one listed above said it was 6 7/8".  The square 1892 bases I have will just barely clear the  6 3/4" waffle iron paddles so I wasn't sure if it would work.  Mike

Perry, not Harry but the ad is on page 255 of the Blue Book and also on page 93 of the Wagner Ware catalog reprint copyright 1915.  Mike

Harry, I know I seen it, cause I looked at all the Favorites displays, but I did not know what it was, and I do not remember seeing it at all. Thats a pretty neat piece. If there ain't no base here for this auction Harry, and you bought a set of paddles and no base, I wonder where all the bases are? Maybe they are fragile and break?  :-/

Thanks Harry, can't believe I missed seeing that one either.  I sure would have like to have looked at it close.  The base in ad drawings sure look like the standard bail handled wi base.  At least I'll know what the real one looks like if I ever come across one.  Mike
