Wagner #1101 bacon and egg skillet
« on: August 23, 2002, 09:52:21 PM »
I found one of these while on vacation today, pretty cool piece. Square skillet divided in half and then one of the halves divided again. I like it anyway, but any collector value on these? ???

Marked WagnerWare, Sidney,  Bacon and Egg Pan,  1101

Thanks Rob

Rob,
These used to be quite common but I have to admit that they rarely show up on ebay; or is it that I never click on them when they do?  I'd say value is around $10 to 25.  The one you want to go after is the older one with the single hole in the handle instead of the handle with the spear shaped hole.  The earlier one had a rectangular bacon press available, or maybe it came with the skillet, and the number on the press is also 1101 I think.  In the earlier style handle Wagner also made a similar pan that was undivided, with a square bacon press.  The presses are usually missing from the skillets but they can be found separately sometimes.

There are several different versions of this skillet.  Like Steve states the more collectible one is the one with the single round hole in the handle, as it is the oldest.  Here's one on Ebay now.

If you search the completed auctions on Ebay, these have sold for as little as $9.95.

There is another version that has a thumb rest and the opening in the handle is more triangular.  The triangular handle version is on Ebay quite a bit, but you seldom see the round holed version.  Greg

;DThought you might find this amusing. Today at a flea market a guy had two of these for sale, one round hole and one triangular. For the life of me I couldn't remember which was the more valuable. Neither could my girlfriend. We remembered that the one we saw on Martha's Vineyard wasn't the one, but we couldn't remember which one it was.

So I had to buy both, $10 each.

Yes the No. on the smaller bacon press is 1101, It is also marked ( WAGNER MFG. CO. SIDNEY O. ).  It is pictured on page 25 in, The Book Of Wagner & Griswold, ( red book ) by Dave Smith & Chuck Wafford. Also pictured in Steve Stephens old news letters, Cast Iron Cookware News. Steve`s old news letters are still very good reference material full of information. If you do not have them you might want to buy them from Steve. WELL WORTH THE MONEY. I still pack around a copy of his Griswold skillet lid chart with a few add ons of my own for the Iron Mountain,Puritan, and Best Made and Best Made SR & Co.

Thanks for the plug John.  Unfortunately CICN is not available.  I do have copies of the last three issues but that is it.  I probably should put a whole set together but the time involved is not there.  Glad you liked it even though I still owe you the last three issues which MAY be out sometime in the next future.

Woops sorry about that Steve I thought you still had them available. Don't lose any sleep on my account over any more issues. I got my moneys worth. Just thought some of the newer collectors would enjoy as much as I have. John

I have an entire set that I bought from you a few years ago.  If you want, I could have them copied for ya.  Would be a great rerference for folks to have.

Greg,
If you want to copy them and sell them or whatever that is ok but no more than 25 sets, ok?  Too much work went into CICN to just give the project away to someone else.  But I don't mind a limited number of copies being offered for those who really want a copy since I do not currently have a stock of issues.

Steve,
It is your work, not mine, I'll get sets copied and send them to you, if you want and you can just pay me the cost of copying them.  If you want me to sell them on this site, you get the profits, not me, as I don't take things that aren't mine.  Let me know what you'd like to do.

Greg,
That's nice of you.  How about a 50-50 split of the profits if any?  Neither of us has the time to do this but you may have a better outlet for them.  You keep your costs plus half of the profit and can offer them on your site.  Let's see what happens.  How much to charge?

Let me get some copies made and see what the cost is.  Kinkos or Staples would do a great job of copying and then I can get binders for them.  Should be cheap to reproduce.  There is some great info in there.

I would be interested in purchasing these as well. No rush but I thought you might want to know there is still a market.
