#14 GRIZWOLD BAILED GRIDDLE
« on: March 12, 2003, 05:20:02 PM »
I have a #14 bailed GRIZWOLD griddle which I can't seem to find in either the blue or red books.  I'm interested in finding the manufacture date and approximate value of this griddle and would appreciate any help.  The markings on the bottom are: 742 at top, large slant logo center and ERIE 14 at bottom.  Thanks

Willard,
Probably made c.1905 to 1912 but I don't think there is any way to get closer on the dates.  Value around $60 to 100 in excellent condition, maybe a bit more if really nicely marked or a collector wants your variation?

 :)Steve,

Thanks for the reply.  I had guessed the age pretty acurately but had no idea of value.

Thanks again --- Willard

Willard,
Now I read that the Griswold trademark was first used in 1910.  Don't know yet if that is accurate but, if so, would date your griddle later to the c.1910 to 1916 period or even later.  There will never be a way to get very close to production dates on many pieces especially ones of lower production where Griswold may have used old style patterns past the time they switched common items to a later style.

Thanks Steve,

I guess they did use old patterns since this one has a ghost mark "ERIE" right under the pattern number 742.
