#20 skillet
« on: August 14, 2003, 02:31:54 AM »
Did anyone other than Griswold make a #20 skillet?
A local auctioneer told me he has a #20 along with other skillets on his sale this weekend but does not know who made it.  I will try to get it but want to know if I have to bring the title to my truck along to pay for it. ::)         JR

If you look in the BLUE book there are two #20's in there, one made by Griswold and the other by WW. Both have the Griswold TM but only one has the EPU and p/n.

I've also seen other #20's that are marked with just the CAST IRON SKILLET on the back and it is most likely a Sidney made piece.

Lodge made one as well it appears, although the pix don't come up for me, but if it is marked SK, then it is likely a LODGE.

(Hey Greg, I was just coming back to add that Lodge 20 ebay skillet and saw it was already on my post.  I got a bit confused how I had already added it then saw it was your addition.  No, not losing my marbles yet.  Thanks, Steve)

Yes, Lodge has made a LOT of No.20 skillets over the years that are pretty much unmarked but, otherwise, nearly identical to Griswold's.  I can't think of any other makers but there might have been one or two.

Thanks guys, I just checked out the "SK" # 20 on Ebay. It does look like the Griswold in the blue book but without the TM .  This sale has a lot of fancy antique stuff from a long time collector's estate . They very well may have a Griswold, I'll know the differance and will let everyone know how it turns out.

Yea, that WAS a #20 skillet! At one time anyway. Looks like it was used for a birdbath for the last 20 years. Whatever markings on it were long gone.   :'( Someone still bought it for 22.50.
I did pick up some interesting pieces there .
A Cruso high base waffle iron an OZARK skillet, and a rimmed sauce pan that fits down into an old wood stove all used by the owner of the estate. :D

The Cruso waffle irons are good pieces to get and not common at all. They show up on e-bay but you will see hindreds of Griswold and Wagner irons for every Cruso.

Harry, I see there is a cruso waffle iron on the foundries page. The one I have is quite different It has the high base with the loop handles. The paddles are rather plain without a rooster only the styled word CRUSO. The waffle patern is different than most ,  one paddle has  all  "X" 's  and the other paddle has small squares.  It's in the lye right now, as it had a very heavy crud build up on it . This is my FIRST waffle iron and can't wait to try it out . Looks like it made tons of waffles in its time, and now it can make waffles for me. :D

(now I'll have to get all of the styles ;D)

JR,
If you try and get all the styles of waffle irons out there you'll need a warehouse to store it in.
