Wagner Waffle Iron

:) Made a great $5 purchase today at the local Flea market. Wagner waffle iron like the one on pg 73 of red book. Only no holder with bail.  The one in book says Pat'd July 26 1899 while the one I have says Pat'd July 26 1892. Is this the same only a earlier version? One handle looks like it was replaced. Appreciate any information if there is anyone left that's not at the convention.  :-*
Thanks, Marilyn   :o

Marilyn,
I cant help much on Waffle Irons.  I'm trying to get up to speed on them myself but there are so many variations.  Daves blue book has Circa 1895-1915 on a Wagner round waffle iron with pat'd 1892  and one you mentioned in red book has Circa 1900?  I feel sure some of the waffle iron experts will reply when they can.

Marilyn,
The waffle iron in the red book actually is dated 1892 although it does look like 1899.  If you saw what the 2 looks like you would see that that's what it is.  I like these early Wagner irons and have one as my only Wagner waffle iron.  They are fairly common.  The handles on the one in the book are replacments as the originals should be turned wood with a small flat area between the two handles and with metal ferrules.  Perhaps yours does have the original handles?  Finding a frame will not be easy though one may turn up.  Be sure it is the correct frame and has the notches for the tits at 9 and 3 o'clock to rest in (if your irons have the small tits on one side-not sure that all 1892 ones do).

:) Thanks Steve for the information. One of the handles looks to be orginal. Now to find a frame. It's a great piece of cast iron even without the frame. Don't know if I will be brave enough to try using it but it will have a place on the wall. Will get my glasses checked that is 1892.
