3 size's WW 1088
« on: April 30, 2004, 10:10:44 AM »
I did not realize that there are three WW 1088 skillet's until Ellis and I were going to do some lid swapping. There are two on p. 28 redbook that are different size's. After talking with Ellis, we narrowed his down to the one on p.27 red book. I believe the dimension given for this skillet on p. 27 is wrong. I think it should be 10-1/8" not 10-7/8". I say this because Ellis say's his skillet is 10-1/8" and here's an ebay link the seller say's 10-1/4". I know it depend's on who's reading the ruler ,but I lean towards the 1/8" difference over the 5/8" to 3/4" dif.  If this is the case what cover will fit the 1088 on page 27 redbook.  Ed.                   http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=976&item=3289423002&ssPageName=STRK:MEBWA:IT

The 1088's I've seen like on page 27 with no pour spouts usually have a dutch oven type lid with them ...glass or cast iron.  I would guess the later  1088's with no spouts might have sold with a glass lid?  [smiley=unsure.gif]

I have no idea about a 1088, no pour spouts, but has the extra tab handle.

Seems like we had a topic before about the ringed lid deep skillet and the skillet roaster both shown on page 28? I know I had a ringed lid and it would not fit a standard skillet as I remember.

I stay constantly confused about measurememts.  I assume the measurements shown in the books and catalogs are outside dimensions?   [smiley=unsure.gif]

I've always thought there were two sizes of 1088 skillets; the old skillet-roaster style with pouring lips and the later ones without that have steeper sides.  That's why the diameters and covers that fit are different.   Is there another 1088 with the steep sides that does have pouring lips?  I just don't remember though I've had them all over the years.   This is similiar to Griswold's deep skillets where the first ones had sloping sides and pattern number 732 (No.8 size) while the later deep skillets were the 777 pattern with steep sides.  Covers are not made for the earlier 732 skillets.  Griswold changed the pattern number with the change in style of their deep skillets but Wagner, maybe because their number 1088 was a Catalog Number, did not change the number.

Yes Steve, there's the deep 1088 skillet with the 1081 ringed cover p. 28 redbook. The dimension to this skillet is to the outside 11-1/8" I measured the one I have.  I think you're right Jerry about the dutch oven cover. I measured my #8 WW DO cover and it would fit the dimensions Ellis gave me. Come to think of it I may have seen these later 1088s with glass covers. I still think the dimension is a typo for the 1088 p. 27 red book.

Guys, any typos in the RED and BLUE book, I would call to the attention of Dave Smith.  I know there is going to be another edition of the BLUE book and I'll have the cover on this one (I'm hoping).  He loves to correct the "errors" in the books and is not offended in the least.

I have a ww 1089 deep sk 3 1/4" with (ohr)and pouring lips, latter I found a ww ringed, zig zag cover marked 1070 and 1082 that fits this 1089 (9) sk. I think the cover is later? the numbers on ww deep sk and double sk are so many, it would be hard to get a compleat set. Does anybody have all of the numbers of ether sets???
What I know, I keep forgetting.

The only thing that I can add to this confusion is as follows:

A Griswold #8, PN#1288, self basting(3 rings), clean easy, raised button logo(2 5/8") cover fits our WW1088 perfectly.

Any known WW equivalent known to the Griswold PN#1288l?

Cheers, Ellis

Well Ellis, I thought I had another WW #8 dutch oven cover but I must have sold it.  I measured the three #8 WW DOs and I think that cover will work for your 1088. Sorry I don't know any c/n for the covers mine are just marked with #8. You'll have to do like I do memorize the WW cover details and carry a tape measure. I'll keep my eye's open for ya in my travels. Ed
