Help on value of an auction
« on: October 04, 2004, 03:45:42 PM »
Anyone tell me if this pan is worth the amount it is going for?

I would say any pan made before the turn of the 20th century is worth $9.99 as long as it's not cracked or damaged.

John, The seller advertises this piece as a Griswold, which it isn't. Don't forget those shipping charges.

Good advice Harry. Although this is very old because of the gate mark, it is not griswold as you say. However it is kinda interesting. You got to admit, it is an antique.

Woops! I let it go.  I was watching another auction when it ended.  Oh well someone got a really good deal on a piece of history.

That was a neat looking skillet griddle. John.  The price was right!  Glad you posted it!

Your welcome Marty.  I hope you're the one who got it.  I only posted it because I had the high bid and I knew my wife would kill me if I won it.  Thanks to whom ever took the bid from me.

No, it wasn't me.  I didn't see the auction until after you posted it, and it was already over.  Still, it is a very neat piece.  I like this old, unmarked stuff.

It was me, guys!  I'd run into it and thought it was real pretty...  Sorry, John-- didn't know it was you that was bidding on it!  Can't wait to get it and clean it up.

No Tania you missed what I was saying.  I was very glad you got it.  Like I said above,  I was going to be killed by my wife if I'd won it, and as it looked, I was on my way to winning it.  I thought asking about it on here might result in someone seeing it and taking the bid from me.  It worked and my a$$ is still in the good graces with the wifey.  Thank you Tania. :D

My spouse would be thrilled if I only spent $13 on a piece of cast iron!  He gets a little excited when I shell out $200 on a waffle iron.  So I just say "oh, did I say $200?  I meant $20!!!"

My wife would think that I had finally lost it. Buying something and spending only $13. My cast iron tastes usually has a couple more zeros.

I don't have that kind of "play dough" to run with the big boys yet!  But as soon as those two kids finish university...........has anyone ever figured out how much cast iron you could buy with 4 years of tuition, room & board and book money for a couple of kids??  Na, I don't even want to think about it.   [smiley=bawling.gif] [smiley=bawling.gif] [smiley=bawling.gif]

I know one thing, the tuition is practically nothing. It's the car, beer, rent, beer, food, beer, etc. that is a killer. And, yes, I have thought about how much iron. It would sink a battleship. I (we) had only one, he is 28 now, and a member of WAGS.  And architecture is 5 years, and he turned it into 6. Hell with 2, I would be collecting cans on the side of the road.

WTG, Ty, Keep CB busy paying off the tuition bills, so that I can buy more iron, LOL.

We started young with kids, so 12 years from now, I won't be buying anymore iron, unless I hit it big in something.

You all have bought enough, let some of us young uns buy some for a while. [smiley=biglaugh.gif]

It makes sense, now I know why I can't find any of the hard to find stuff, all the WAGS members bought it all.  LOL

Yep, when Greg's babies are at university, I will  have enough money by then to buy his J. Savery's Sons collection.  He'll really need the dough to put those two girls through university.  Let's see.....what will tuition be at Harvard in 12 years?

I get giddy just thinkin' about it.  Of course he could set up an aebleskiver stand on campus to make a little extra dough for the kids tuition.  [smiley=hyper.gif] [smiley=hyper.gif] [smiley=hyper.gif]

Greg: C. B. is through with tuition. Have been for several years. And as I said, the tuition is not the expensive part.
