#11 Long Griddle
« on: January 23, 2005, 01:46:43 PM »
I ran into a large block logo #11 Long Griddle the other day for a hefty price that I could not afford.  I did not know they made these; the blue book only lists sizes to #10.  This one also had a bail handle; are those common in these later pieces (I see that the early diamond logos are designed for them)?  I don't see these things in my area at all, so I thought maybe someone else has run across one.

Mike,
If the bail is original it should have nicely formed loops where it attaches to the griddle and those loops should have some marks where the machinery dug into the wire.  Also the ends of the wire should be sheared off and not hacksawed off.  I didn't know Griswold put bails on any block TM griddles.

Mike and Steve, On page 57 of the blue book there is a long griddle with a bail attached. Also, on page 59, top, there is a number 11 long griddle listed, book value 100.00.

Steve,

I think everything was legit on the piece; it had nice loops and the bail looked original.  The tabs on the griddle itself looked like they were designed for a bail; they looked more like the one C. Perry mentions on page 57.
