New cast iron
« on: March 18, 2005, 10:10:13 AM »
I just had breakfast with a friend at "Cracker Barrel" and was looking at their brand name line made by Lodge. I don't see how you could ever get it seasoned with a coating that was relatively non-stick as rough as it is on the inside. I wouldn't give $5.00 for the truck load they had. Darn, I hate to see the quality go like that. C B

CB,
I hear ya and agree but one thing I think needs said is that when we get down there during the convention the goal is to tour a foundry. Lodge is proud of what they do and rightfully so with all the EPA regulations and foriegn markets they are the last of the big company survivors. That is saying a lot.
Opening their plant to a tour is not the norm because of OSHA regulations and I think Dave should get much credit for pulling this off as Mr. Kellerman is going out of his way to hook us up.
That all being said, I would hope we use some diplomacy during our tour.
I would hate to take their hospitality and poke them in the eye with a reamark on their quality.
Not saying anyone would..... I just don't think it would do much for our public relations.

That is a point very well taken, Troy.  While none of us may be hot to trot over new Lodge, they are the last American cookware foundry, and I am glad they are still in business and employing Americans.   Since they have been kind enough to open their doors to us, I hope we will all be gracious and respectful.

Dave wll have to tell us how he did this, as they at first said NO WAY.  I believe he has a great connection at LODGE that WAGS should be very proud of.  Thanks Dave!!
