Wagner Ware 16
« on: May 01, 2005, 01:02:28 PM »
Hi! I am new here - love this site! I buy a lot of cast iron, but am still a novice. I find most of my Wagner Ware and Griswold at auctions. Came across a Wagner Ware 16 - it is a large flat griddle with a handle - cast iron, not aluminum. I have done some research and cannot find anything about it. Is it a fake? Even here, I checked out the skillet sizes and they jump from 14 to 20. Is there any such thing as a 16?

Hi there, Wagner and Griswold did make a number 16 round griddle with a bail handle.  The markings on the bottom can help determine the age.  They are shown on p.46 of the Red Book (the book of wagner and griswold).

[smiley=welcome.gif]  glad to have you here, ask any questions you like.

Do you know what it's value is? I need to get that book. I checked at Barnes and Noble - they didn't have any on the subject in stock.
Thank you so much for your help!

Christine,
You can get many books at discount from Greg, our webmaster here:
http://www.griswoldandwagner.com/
Start with the blue book then get the red book.  BUT the new edition of the blue book is due out soon and is worth waiting for a month or two.

Your Wagner round griddle in exc. condition might be worth in the $50-75 range as my guess.

Thank you so much - I have been meaning to get the book - I am not sure which one - but when I went - it was pretty expensive - and then when I went back for it, they were out of stock. FIGURES! Thanks for your help - I really appreciate it!

Both the Smith and Wafford books are ones you can use for a long time in this hobby so the price is very reasonable.  I can't say that for most of the other books out there as they are not nearly so well done.  If you like Griswold muffin pans the Haussler book is also a good one with prices that are mostly too high.
