Griswold Wood Handle Skillets
« on: January 22, 2006, 03:42:41 PM »
I am doing futher work on the matrix of Griswold skillets. Please indicate if you have any of the following wood handle skillets in your collection. I would also like to have the pattern number for each.

Slant TM/ERIE- with wood handle, with heat ring   #2,#3,#4,#11,#12
or
Slant TM/ERIE PA USA- with wood handle, with heat ring  #2,#3,#4,#11,#12

Also, does anyone have a #5 GRISWOLD'S ERIE?

                                           Thanks,
                                             Roy Meadows

Roy, here are the pattern numbers for ALL wood handle Griswold skillets:
2 735  3 753  4 758  5 700  6 698  7 725  8 726  9 727  10 371  11 372
12 373

I have had the 2 slant/EPU, seen a terrible condition 6 ERIE wood handle skillet for $5 and didn't buy it was that bad.  Have an 8 ERIE wood handle with no pattern number and a few other wood handles that aren't too rare.

Steve,
Isn't the slant/ERIE the only #2 woodie that is known to exist?

Steve,
Did your #2 Slant TM/EPU have a heat ring? There is one in Smith and Wafford with a wood handle that does not have a heat ring. Am I correct that all wood handle skillets, no matter which series, had the same P/N?

I think that's correct Greg.  I do believe that a second No.2 showed up years ago in not too great condition but don't remember what markings it had nor do I know who had it.

Roy, yes, same p/n for all wood handle skillets for any variation as far as I know just like the regular skillets have the same p/n other than the oddball early ERIEs that used one of several p/n's for each of the different sizes.

The no.2 slant smooth bottom pan in the book I think is the one that I used to have.  Have not seen a heat rim one but don't remember what the second one that showed up was like.

Mac McClendon in Florida put together a set of wood skillets but I think one of the pans was aluminum painted black.  I think Joe Noto ended up with that set.  He may have a photo of that set on his website.

Also Grant and Pat Windsor have an extensive collection of woodies.  Don't know all that they have but have been told they have a lot.

To summarize what I think I have learned from this thread:
The only Griswold #2 Wood Handle skillets that we believe were produced are;

Slant TM/ERIE PA USA with smooth bottom in cast iron and perhaps plated
Block TM with smooth bottom in aluminum (and also in cast iron and plated per Bulletin No. E-10)

Please respond if anyone knows of another #2 Griswold "woodie".
                                                                  Thanks,
