What does the base of your nail holder say?  I have one similar, and was told it was a cobbler's nail holder.

Hi Ellis, I don't know what it say's, I took that pic at a antique show last weekend.  Cobblers nail holder makes sense to me. I've heard them called nail holders, just didn't know who it held nails for. This dealer is at a lot of shows. He has some nice iron and other primitives. The cover in the pic dosen't go on that kettle either, it just made a nice stand.

 Never seen that pattern but that lid looks fishy. I'd bet it's a marriage. Doesn't look like a good fit.
