My First Magnalite
« on: March 17, 2009, 12:39:35 AM »
Picked this up a couple weekends ago. Needs a little cleaning and it'll shine.

Are these pieces Magnalite, are they marked as such? I guess I thought they were just regular Wagner aluminum, but I never did check mine to see how they are marked.

Chuck, I'm not any expert on much of anything but I think all Magnalite pieces are marked as such, at least the 6 or 7 pieces I have are. I do know that you had the regular Wagner aluminum, the Wagner Magnalite then the GFC Wagner Magnalite. Someone let me know....... :-?

I wouldn't call it Magnalite - it's just aluminum.  Pretty neat piece.  It should shine like a gem when cleaned up.

Looks like the edge has a hammered finish, did they do a hammered finish on Magnalite? All the Magnalite I've seen said Magnalite....that doesn't mean much though LOL

I have some hammered Wagner aluminium pieces and this looked like one of them. I looked in the red book under the Wagner catalog numbers and that number is on page 124.

I am also unclear on this also. This is the way I understand it is Wagner Wear dropped that name and became Magnalite for their aluminium ware.

The number is for hammered aluminum....I'm not familiar with the aluminum and Magnalite stuff, but I'm assuming that that number means it is NOT Magnalite? I know what aluminum is, but what exactly is Magnalite?

Magnalite

An aluminium alloy of the composition: aluminium 94.2%, copper 2.5%, zinc .5%, manganese 1.3%, nickel 1.5%. This material has a high tensile strength of about 30,000 lbs per square inch and a specific gravity of 2.8.

Sorry but I'm at work now, and would furnish a better picture, but Wagner retained their name when they made the Magnalite.

All I know is the Roasters are very nice. And was told to get the ones with "WagnerWare" on them. The older ones. I have 3 sizes and there very nice roasters......... :)

I THINK what they were talking about Jesse, is that when Wagner was taken over by GHC (General Housewares Corporation), the initials "GHC" were put on the pieces, SO, if you want the old, which is considered better, then get the pieces that are marked "Wagner Ware". NOW, having said this, in my opinion, I think the GHC Magnalite pieces are just as good, just as strong, and are alike in every way, just marked differently, BUT, I must also say that as far as looks, I'll take the old Wagner Ware Magnalite also, but, I do have some of each.
