Compatibility Question (Dutch Oven)

I just joined and, again, thanks to the administrator for the opportunity.  
A friend called me yesterday and offered me a Wagner 1268E dutch oven if I would pick it up.  However, it has no lid.  I do know where a #8 lid for a roaster skillet is and am wondering if the fit would be correct.  The lid is marked WAGNER DRIP DROP on the north side of the lid handle and SKILLET ROASTER south of it with No.8  in between, all in raised letters.  On the underside is 1081.  Although I am sure it might be blasphemy, I am considering mating the two for the sake of using the oven IF the fit is correct.  Would anyone have an opinion whether this idea would work?  Thanks.

If the lid is for a skillet roaster it should have protrusions for the pouring lips the 1268 D/O is round and has no pouring lips I don't think it will fit. I have a 1081 3 ring lid and it DOES NOT FIT my 1268 D/O
You can find a C8 Corning glass lid pretty easy and they work fine in my opinion.

Thanks Brian.  The lid does have the flared protrusions; I didn't know if they would interfere with the oven's top rim or not, esp. if they were slightly rotated away from the bail attachments.  You saved me a few bucks.

1081 fits the deep #8 skillet.  It will not fit a dutch oven.

If you can get a fully marked Wagner lid for a few bucks I would probably go ahead and do it (providing it is in good shape) as you can find Wagner #8 skillets pretty cheap as well.

Jeff, I have been trying to find two fully marked Wag lids for both of my 1268 WW ovens. They sell so high on Ebay...I just hadn't found them yet.

I see very very few fully marked Wagner D/O covers.  It seems to me that they must have made far more completely unmarked D/O than marked ones  :-/

There are as many un answered  questions out there about Wagner as there is about all the rest of the iron out there. That's why I collect Wagner "the other cast iron"

Here is the skillet that the lid fits.   The later 1088 deep skillets has no pour spouts on them.  This is a harder to find skillet.   That 1081 lid is not that easy to find either.   Value on the 1081 lid is about $20-30 easy.

Thanks to all for the info.  I sure don't need to go trying to match up lids with correct skillets but that one on Ebay looks like you could fry a couple of chickens  in it.  I picked up the lid today from a lady in a knick-knack store and ordered a copy of the Blue Book.  Just what I needed, another hobby/obsession.

Welcome!!!   We all need multiple obsessions. ;D   This one for me is pretty cheap.   Model trains and antique John Deere tractors takes care of the rest of my money. ;D

Thanks for the heads up on the C-8 glass lid.  I picked one up and it fits nicely.  I saw one go on ebay recently for a Griswold for a lot of dough; didn't know they were in demand that much.  Again, thanks.

I haven't decided yet if I am going to be obsessed; still haven't received the Blue Book, but should soon.  I really don't have the time for another obsession.  I am trying to baby a bunch of fruit trees and berries along, which is time consuming and also trying to kick an old revolver habit.  Thanks for your concern; I am enjoying the info on this site.

Update:My Blue Book came in this afternoon and I can already see what I will be doing this evening.  Since a couple of items I saw in shops aren't included in pics in this edition, I assume that they might be in the Red Book.  Ex: Erie Dutch oven 834 bottom with 838 lid.
