Slant/ERIE #9 Flat Bottom Kettle info
« on: March 28, 2010, 01:36:41 AM »
Just picked this up this evening for $15 bucks. Has a little spray paint on it, but other than that it looks to be in excelent shape. However I looked it up in both the "Red" and "Blue" books, and I could only find the Block/EPU version on page 76 of the "Blue" book. I looked up the pattern number (812), and it is listed as the #9 Flat Bottom Kettle.

Anyone know about these?
Did I miss something in the books? Are these pieces common? Did the #9 come with a cover? Value?

Thanks!

Dave

Can't offer an estimate on current value but it did come with a top, #882
Seen it all. Done it all. Can't remember most of it!

Those came in sizes 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. The tops are rather hard to come by. For 15.00 you stole it, as long as the inside bottom is not all pitted up. And the one that you have is just the earlier version with the slant and simply "ERIE" on it, the block logo you are talking about is later. As far as value between the two kinds, I'd say none.

Thanks Sam and Perry.

The inside is almost perfect, from what I can tell. Almost looks like it was hardly used. I guess I will have to keep an eye out for the lid!

Good luck to you Dave. They are hard to come by, but, they are out there. I'd like to see a number 10 of these, I have never seen one.

Let me change my story. I saw a set of them for sale once, but I do not recall seeing the 10 in the set, so it was 6, 7, 8, and 9.

A value on the kettle is probably in the $50 range.   A lid for it is probably in the $300-400 range.
