How to ship Griswold overseas??

How to ship Griswold overseas?? We have movers coming to pack us up and I want to be able to tell them how I want the cast iron packed so to improve the chances of them arriving intact. I have about 15 pieces and I know that they will wrap in simple paper and layer one on top the other unless I make a stink.
I did read the shipping/ebay article and that helped - but I am hoping for advice more centered on sending multiple pans overseas. Thanks!

Patty......Just make sure that your movers / packers know that cast iron is a fragile, brittle material, and should be packed as though it was glass.  If they pack it like glass, you shouldn't have any problems.  Just being nosey, but where is your iron going to???  :)

Scott - Thank you for your considerate and speedy replies. We are moving to Germany, near the Czech. border. I guess my Griswold hunting days will be over while I am there ... unless Griswold's are stockpiles in Germany  ;D

Yes! Of course! ... not sure what that means - but if I can get it for you and send it to you I will do it at cost. So does europe have great iron? I would love to get some Le Cruesets (sp?) but I have heard that the Dollar to Euro is weak.

Here is one line of European CI. I used to have a complete set of it, but gave it away to my best friend's daughter except for the retangular pan which I still use for corn bread. WMF CI makes excellent CI except for their skillets which are toooo heavy.

Why not wrap the CI yourself? Buy a big roll of bubble wrap and some shipping tape and get it ready for packing yourself. Then you are sure.

 That's what I would do. A good heavy layer around each individual piece. Then tape them together securely to fit into the box. Use a big enough box to allow at least 2" on all sides. Stuff the box tightly around the bundle, so that it can't possibly move around inside the box. Tape every seam on the box to give it it more strength.

If they all fit inside each other then you can use sections from a newspaper.  Just put the section so that the cast iron does not touch each other and you will be good.  I have shipped multiple piece before and done this with great results.

You could also use thin pieces of Styrofoam if you have that available.

I would do as Judith and Chris suggested.  What you spend on bubble wrap and good packaging will pay off in the long run.

OK, thank you all for the advice! I especially like the idea of sheets of foam - I wonder if insulation foam board would work?
