Latest addition

Snagged this one about a week ago. A special thanks to Jeff Seago for pointing it out, and for holding off on bidding so I would have a fighting chance. I'll post the before pics in the cleaning and seasoning section, but here's the after pics.

Chuck those pieces look awesome!! Maybe not quite as good as the real deal but they are much harder to find!!!  I like it and I would have paid what you did for it any day of the week (as long as my wife was not with me  ;D).  The covers are extremely hard to find.

I guess I did not realize until now that these lids don't have basting rings.

I wonder how many Loth pieces are out there??

Hey now I just realized that the "sealing ring" on the cover does not follow the contours of the skillet ear covers (yeah that sounds like it makes sense??).  What the heck did they copy for the skillet cover??

Will a Wagner #10 cover fit a Griswold skillet??  I don't think so but I don't have one to check.

Chuck is this skillet a smaller in diameter than a Griswold Block Logo heat ring??

I noticed the lack of basting rings also, but yet it is self basting. The lid is slightly concave if looking at it from the outside. This allows the moisture to catch on the lid, and run towards the center instead of the outside edge, and it drips from there. Pretty nice idea, and easier to cast also.

Thats a good observation Jeff. I have pointed this out before, but Wagner lids do not follow the contour of the skillet ears, but Griswold lids do follow the contour of the skillet eats. On the Wagner this means that you can turn the lid in place and vent the skillet while it is sitting in place. On the Griswold however, you can not turn the lid in place, if you want to vent the skillet, you have to remove the cover and cock it in halfway on the skillet, which means it is sitting precariously on the hot skillet, which is not the safest, since it could fall/slide off and do some damage. SO, the Wagner skillet lids are much more user friendly IMO.

There is a #8 basting lid on the Loth's page of the foundry list that looks just like an Iron Mountain. The ridge on the edge follows the contours of the skillet spouts and it even has those same basting rings like you see on IM lids.

The Loth measures 11 3/8" across the top. About the same as a Griswold #9, and about 3/8" smaller than the Griswold #10 LL SB. In fact, the Loth lid juuuust fits the #9 Griswold LL SB.
