waffle iron help
« on: February 19, 2014, 01:59:29 PM »
The other night I was browsing ebay and ended up buying a Griswold #8 waffle iron.  The problem is I didn't know anything about them and after winning the auction I realize that it looks like the base is missing.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Griswold-Cast-iron-waffle-maker-/191065288671?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=hEVV%252FJzNjJnK2rmwJXfnQkSzEY0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

My question is can this still be used?  I really only bought it to use on my campfire grate while camping so im not worried about the collector value.  Could this be used on a grate over a fire like a pie iron?

It will work just fine the way you think you might use it.  I think the cornbread pan is made by Birmingham Stove and Range, although I'm not absolutely sure.  Lodge lifted the design from them.

That's great to hear that it will still work without the base.  We like to do a lot of primitive camping using primitive cooking methods so we cook everything over a campfire on a grate that I built.  My wife & son were excited when I told them we would be adding cast iron cooked waffles to our cast iron griddle breakfast menu.  And a bonus that I had forgotten about....corn bread.

You can do your corn bread two ways now. Try it in the waffle iron.  ;)
