Micro Skillet -- Please help
« on: April 06, 2015, 09:48:31 AM »
Somehow, I've acquired a micro skillet. I'm not talking 3-1/2". This is more like a 1" griddle. It's obviously not useful for anything but I'm still curious.

Has anyone seen a pan like this? How was it marketed (play set, novelty)?

Any information is appreciated. For size reference, I have it attached to a 1x4 board.

I don't know. Could it have been part of a set that goes with a toy stove?

Given the extremely small size (scale) most likely a piece made for use in a Doll House IMO.

Cool. If I remember correctly, my son found it somewhere and gave it to me. His suggestion was to put it on a change and hang it from my neck.

Possibly a piece from a toy cast iron stove.

Very smart son. He's definitely a big part of OUR cast iron collecting.

I was talking to a picker today and she said that the tiny stuff could be traveling salesman's models. What do you think?

There are very few true "Salesman" sample items.

A skillet as small as the one you posted is definitely a toy, and very probably to a toy stove, or doll house furniture.

Many are newer items... after 1950.

Toy Stoves and accessories, and doll house accessories are, an entirely different learning curve separate and apart from Cast Iron Cookware.   :) :)

There are older Toy Stoves, but many, many, more reproductions of them.  It is a science unto itself. 8-)

That's interesting Cheryl. Thanks for the help. I don't think it's something I'll be pursuing; however, if I stumble upon a companion piece, I'll definitely consider it.

Thanks for feeding my addiction.

I could get sucked into the Toy Stoves, verrryyy easily.
I only have one so far, a reproduction made from original patterns.

Will probably acquire another real deal in the NEAR future...

But I constantly tell myself.. no... no... no.........

Then finally breakdown and say..yes...yes...yes......as evidenced in your post with new pieces all the time.

Oh! Oh!   did you fall in love with the smallish ones?  or medium, or large?  so many different sizes to collect.   I have 2 of the BIG Rival salesman sample stoves.  but, I kind of fell into a deal with the first one.  ;)  I have a medium something or other,  and a small piece of junk.  no more for me.  really......
