Decent Current Production Reversible Griddle?
« on: June 07, 2015, 01:38:14 PM »
A young friend inquired to me about a new item she saw, a BAKING STEEL. It's a 18- by 14- by 3/8-inch slab of solid steel with a polished steel surface and a grease channel. It looks well made but at $200 I thought I could find her a nice vintage griddle.
This led to a back and forth and I was told she would prefer a reversible stovetop griddle (flat and ribbed sides), in the area of 10x20", 9x18".

After looking around and through my books I have realized the reversible griddle seems to be a fairly modern invention, meaning the flat side will have the rough pebbly finish seeen on most contemporary cast iron cookware.

Any recommendations for an affordable ($40-50) reversible stovetop griddle? I see the Le Creuset is well finished but $200.

thanks,

Rob

About 7 years ago we  bought the Lodge Claudia shows in her link, it was reasonably smooth new and has gotten much better over time, it is a beast though as far as weight, I do like the grease channel on the one side. Over all I would say it was a good buy for the money.

Thanks to all, I guess that is the only option.

Rob, check these out.  The first is not reversible but it is very affordable.  The second is reversible, but it appears to be a recent Lodge so the surface may be a bit rough at the start.  But, as Claudia said, it will smooth out as it is used.
