Another First for me--Wagner Ware National
« on: July 15, 2015, 06:20:28 AM »
I know they're around, but I've never found one before. No 8. It needs a little work, but really not bad. It goes into the bath as soon as the 5 I've got in it now come out. There's a no 5 slant logo in there and I'm anxious to see how it comes out.

We have a Wagner Ware National #8 just exactly like yours.  It came with my wife when we got married almost 50 years ago.  It was cruddy when it came to our house and now after the years is really a mess.  But wife won't let me clean it because the crud was put on there by her Mother and Grandmother.  I can make any old skillet just shine looking good but not this one even though it is in every day service.  David.

Like your wife, I WOULD NOT clean it either if it cooks right [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I wish the general public agreed! Unfortunately, they want them cleaned and pretty. And truth be told, I enjoy doing it. Like many of you, I consider it a rescue mission.

At the city sale where I got this one and several of the others I've posted in the last few days, one lady told me that she wished I'd been there a week ago. She said that she had just thrown out a bunch of old cast iron from her grandmother. I asked her if there were any markings, and she told me that they had big crosses on the bottom with Griswold in it in script. I assume she meant slant logos. I almost started to cry.
