WagnerWare Dutch Oven--with questionable bottom
« on: July 14, 2015, 07:07:31 AM »
Another pick-up on Saturday. Clearly a Wagner Ware top--see pics. But the bottom is unmarked and I'm doubting its Wagner. Lid fits well, so usable, but tell me what you think--Is the bottom Wagner or something else?

The bail ears with the depression for the bail to fit into look like those seen on Wagner Ware

Frank, Here is a DO that I picked up a while back, Before and after pics, I think it is a Wagner, It is almost identical to yours with only very minor differences,One difference is the little reinforcing rib under the lift assist tab that your DO has that mine does not, Mine has a number 8. and some hard to read markings above it.

Could just be the difference in time periods I guess. There don't seem to be any numbers or letters on the bottom of mine at all.

I looked at a number of eBay listings for Wagner Ware DO's, some have that little rib under the tab and some do not, You state that there are no numbers or markings on yours but in the full bottom photo there appears to be a small number 8 in the 12 noon position on the bottom, Is that an actual number or just a water mark.
My vote is that your base is Wagner Ware

My best advice... put it in the lye bath and see if anything "shows up"... :) :)

Yep, then I'll be able to see any faded marks. Valerie, you're right, there is a small number 8!
