How old is this pan???

Hi, and good morning.  My name is Jason and I am a huge fan of antique cast iron pots and pans.  My collection started after my grandparents passed away after I inherited their set of cast iron frying pans.  Over the years it has grown, just a little. 

While I was in the Navy, I was stationed out of Mayport, Fl. living in base housing.  One day I was leaving to go to work and noticed an old frying pan laying in the grass next to the resident's trash can.  I asked if I could retrieve it and was allowed to do so.  The only marking on it is a solid line going across the bottom but there are pit marks from where the pan was used over an open flame for a while. 

I have taken the pan overseas with me to a few different commands and everyone that I was able to ables about it just said that it was " old ".  I am hoping that someone can help me out??

Hi Jason,
The solid line sounds like it could possibly be a gate mark.
You can attach the pics if you resize them and then you will get more feedback about your skillet. There have been a few recent postings with photos of skillets that have gate marks so you can look and compare to your skillet.
Sometimes the old skillets can never be identified as to who made them but that does not make them any less interesting.

Right click on the picture and do a copy and paste to get another copy of it.  Right click on the copy and edit.  Change the size to pixels, and change the larger number (the longest side) to 640.  That will give a good size to post.

Here is one last photo of Jason's skillet.

Jason, that is a gate mark on the bottom of your pan. The pitting on the bottom is more than likely sulfur pitting from low quality coal or gas being used as fuel. It's a nice pre-1900 single spout skillet, and you say it was just lying on the ground somewhere?

I have seen THOUSANDS of skillets. But I have never seen a pour spout like this one before. How about anybody else? You ever seen one or even hear tell of one? Why hasn't anybody else mentioned this pour spout? Am I the only one that sees this pour spout? :-/ ;D

Jason, I have only been a WAGS member for a coupla of months or less, but truly appreciate the knowledge that the established members have! With that said, Perry's reaction to the pour spout tells me that you have a " one of a kind" find...but there are now many people looking!  ::) ::) ;D

I've only seen one other like that pour spout. Very nice and how did it ever survive? Great piece.
