Not really sure....
« on: February 03, 2020, 10:35:48 AM »
So I have a question about the forum, but I’m not sure where to post it. Lol. I’m sorry everyone.  Mods feel free to move or delete this if necessary.

I have the box checked when I posted earlier about being notified of replies......but low and behold, there were two replies and I received nothing. There’s nothing in my junk mail, or anything of the sort.  Does it have to do with not be a full WAG member?

Thank you again,

Joseph

Joseph, That could very well be why you weren't notified of the two responses on the Hello and Welcome board.  I honestly don't know because I've never used that feature. :-[  Perhaps someone will come along who can give you a better answer.

The same thing happened this time Sandy. Hmmmmm, oh well. Hopefully I’ll know how things work eventually, and I’ll figure out where to post things. Lol

Thank you, Joseph.
I too have been frustrated with this same function.   I will be following this to see where it leads.

So, does that mean that the regular folks who have been on here for a long time, that you just check within the forum to see if your posts have activity?  Nobody is getting a ping via email?

Thanks

Welcome from the Piney Woods of  East Texas.
I haven't checked the notification block, but I do check the forum religiously, several times a day.  Never can tell what pearls of wisdom can be gleaned just by spending 5 to 10 minutes at a time on this most informational site.  Really helps to ease the withdrawal symptoms from a raging case of cast iron addiction, aka castironitis. Well, is there a button or anything that I am not seeing right off hand, to show only NEW POSTS?

Thanks again,

Joseph

Joseph and Christian, I will check both of your profiles to make sure you have 'set' the switch to receive Email Notifications.

I will provide more info once that is done... :)

Joseph and Christian,

Both of you should start receiving email notifications now.....

IF you indicate on each post that you want a notification.....

Upper right hand corner, inside Blue Bar... is Topic Notification button on this thread.

OR...
If you are on a Board and want Notifications from that Board, then Click on "Notify of Replies" and a pop up window will appear with a drop down menu for you to select from.

Hope that helps...

Settings for your profile can be found in User CP in the black menu bar above.

Help for the User CP (Control panel) can be found here:

It can take a wee bit of time to learn to navigate the User CP (control panel)... to view your notifications you have to navigate to the POSTS tab, and then you can make changes or remove them...

Mine are set to Notify me of all New Posts on almost ALL of the Boards available on the Forum....

:)

Cheryl, Thank you for the explanation... I was totally unaware the User CP had to be modified because I've never been interested in using that feature.  Now I know.

And thank you, Joseph, for asking.  We all learned something new today.  :)

OK, Joseph, glad to see you are on board now.
I may still have a couple questions here.

Cheryl, I saw where it looks like you had gone in a clicked one the ‘Notifications of additions to forum..? Or however it’s worded’

However, I have not received any emails telling me there has been any chatter on this thread.

My point was more in that when you post a new thread, below one’s post, there is 3 box options to check.  The very 1st one says to check if you would like to be notified via email of responses to your post.
So I always click that box, is that actually not a working item?

Anyway, the item in the user CP is now turned on via Cheryl, but I will see, maybe something will show up tomorrow.

And we are talking about an email sent to me saying there is a response to my thread, etc.  right?

Thanks

Chris

Step One: is to add Email Notifications which is done in your Profile Settings which is what I have already done for you on your Profile.

(Click on User CP in Black bar above --->
Select Profile in Black Header Bar----->
Select Options from list on right------>
Enter your password when prompted---->
When Options page reloads you will see a category -
Post and Board Notifications:      Notify me of new Notifications by e-mail?
with a drop down menu: Yes or No.
Select Yes.
Go to Bottom and click Save Changes. )

So you will now need to set which Notifications that you want to receive Email Notifications of.

This is done by clicking the Notification button on either an Individual Topic (Blue Bar at top or bottom of each Topic)

OR

Notifications Button on any Board (Blue Bar Top and/or Bottom) which asks you to select All Posts, New Replies, or Remove. Click Save after you select.

If you still are not receiving email notifications, then you need to check your Spam Folder on your email server for sure.

I see you are using a gmail address here on the Forum, and Gmail is pretty aggressive with Spam defenses..  :) and you will need to mark any emails from the Forum as not Spam if Gmail put them in the Spam Folder.

And yes, the email will actually send you the actual content of the new post, along with the direct link to the post.... but caution,,, get logged into the Forum first before clicking the direct links in the emails, or else you may generate multiple errors which could result in IP blocking... :)

PLEASE take note of this last sentence, as if you are not logged into the forum (NOTE: set the forum as always logged in) and you click three of these email links, you will BAN yourself and not be able to ever see the forum and then you'll need to notify an ADMIN (Cheryl or me) as we need to go to the SERVER and unban your IP address.

This warning is also on the front page in RED at the top, as many people are banning themselves.  I'm set up in Fiji now, but I'm 17 hours ahead of the East Coast of the USA now, so my hours of being on the Net and checking emails are VERY different. Also, I'm often not on the computer or iPhone, as I'm building from sun up to sun down now.
