Hello from Mississippi
« on: December 25, 2022, 06:55:16 PM »
I have become interested in cast iron, the more I learn the less I know. I decided to buy a cast iron skillet and got to thinking I bet I could find one at the flea market that is literally 2 blocks away, sure enough they have various cast iron items laying around, brands I did not recognize like Griswald, and Wagner old stuff, that lead me down a rabbit whole that I seem to be stuck in it now.
I did buy the #10 Wagner skillet hanging on the wall at the flea market, paid to much for it I'm sure but it is a nice pan, real smooth, took it home washed, cleaned it, seasoned it and was cooking on it for supper, nice pan and I didn't buy it to look at.
I bought my house 20 years ago and it came with a cast iron stove (heater) as I lit it the other day I asked myself where did that thing come from looked on the back and there is a name plate, Birmingham Stove & Range Co.  Birmingham Ala. 132 Franklin with serial number and patent number. I guess I started my cast iron collection 20 years ago and didn't realize it. I sort of backed into this whole cast iron collecting but now I am on the hunt for a dutch oven.

Tommy, you have come to the right site for information about cast iron. The rabbit hole gets deeper with every addition to your collection. The only remedy is to keep feeding the addiction and enjoy. :welcome2: :sm_usflag:

Welcome Tommy,
It is really an addiction and this is a great place to learn.  As you and I have been sending PMs back and forth about your membership package, Tommy is joining the "dark side" of the FORUM and joining WAGS.  The committee is likely just busy with the holidays and I have sent an email to the Chairman to see if they have the application and the ETA so that your profile allows you to the Members' side.  Just a warning, use a string or bread crumbs over there, as you will get lost in the GBs of info there.  Yes, many 10's of GBs, as I do the backups on the server!
