Jerry, the ratios were provided by a replating document my brother inlaw is using to plate some parts -- I assumed they were good numbers.  I won't screw up another pan!!!!

Isn't battery acid, just sulfuric acid?  If so, what is the molarity, as molarity does change and differ and would greatly affect the final molarity of your solution.

Yes, its sulphuric.......but you lost me doc....what is molarity?.... :D

I havent found the recipe I was given, but it seems to me it was like a cup of acid to 5 gallon of water?......I'd think too much acid would eat up metal without using a charger? [smiley=unsure.gif]

Molarity is the number of moles per liter of water

Well I will be dam*....lol....all the moles in Mississippi are in the ground?   ;D

PS.......are you talking shorthand for molecules?

NOPE, one mole is equal to Avogadro's number of molecules in a mole.  Avogadro's number = 602000000000000000000000 or 6.02 x 10 to the 23rd power.

Thus, one mole of anything has the same number of molecules or Avogadro's number.

Jerry, I agree with you, and anyway you look at it, it's too many moles, just too many.

LOL.  Just things I have to deal with on a daily basis in my job.

It is sort of like the old saying, "which weighs more a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks?"

Well Greg, I'm glad we got a dedicated man like you on the job. But, you gotta admit, this Avogadro fellow, now he sure is a patient man to have counted all them moles. And now, you just have to take his word for it and don't have to do all that mole countin, cause he's "been there and done that".

Well, while you are counting the moles daily, I wish y'all would come up with a cure for A Fib!........ ;D

I got a kick out of the "moles".

I think the problem with the stripping with battery acid was that the current was too low.  This made it a slow process which caused the pitting.   Commercial battery acid in a ratio of about 20 to 1 would be approximately correct for the stated amperage.  This would be about 1 quart of acid to 5 gallons of water.  The most important point made is that chrome requires different methods than nickel.

As a parent who has recently struggled through high school chemistry with a not-too-comprehending daughter, I got my fill of molarity and molality as well as covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds.

I've posted this URL before for anyone that might be interested in de-plating  or plating.  I've talked to these folks some time agon and they are quite helpful with information.

http://www.caswellplating.com/kits/index.html

On that page, they have a Plating Tutorial which is interesting info.

I noticed in the tutorial they mention controlling the amount of power going to the Anode for plating?  I wonder if that holds true for De-Plating?
