Copper Pot with Cast iron Handle
« on: May 07, 2010, 09:05:31 PM »
A friend has asked me to clean a copper pot, approx 3 gallons, with tinned interior surface, and with a approx 16 inch  riveted cast iron handle.  My concern is whether electro will affect the tinned interior surface?

I currently use copper wire to suspend CI in the electro with no problem.  Also any suggestions for cleaning the copper exterior of corrosion without removing the patina?

Thanks  Jerry

Gerald,

I if you look at my post about the steamer oven, I put it in my electro tank.  It is made of tin and the bottom is copper.  It cleaned the tin very nicely without any ill effects.  The copper bottom comes out looking dark and gray, but if you have to scrub on it, it will shine and you will lose the patina.  Hope this helps

P.S. You don't have to leave it in the tank very long. I left mine for about a hour and it took all the old paint and rust off.
