Cleaning Aluminum
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:41:55 PM »
I was in a restaurant supply store a few weeks ago, and saw an item on the counter called "Carbon Off". It said it was safe for aluminum, so I thought I would give it a try. Spray it on, wait a few minutes, or as long as you want, then wash right off, no scrubbing needed. Sounds too good to be true right. It actually worked pretty good. I had a pretty carbon-ed up Wagner oval roaster so I tried it on 1/2 the inside if the lid.

How much did it cost ya?
Dawn Power Dissolver will do the job for about $2.89 a bottle (Walmart).

Also 1 to 2 hours in the SCO will accomplish that also... I have a lid in the oven as we speak! ;)  The trivet is lighter weight, so it got the DPD treatment.

Not sure what it cost, but probably more than $3. I perused the aluminum cleaning section here once and didn't find much except walnut shells, so I thought I would give it a shot. I'll have to try the DPD

I don't know that I would use it on Aluminum since it is >50% and <70% sodium Hydroxide.
