Dang Weather!
« on: November 26, 2013, 12:08:27 AM »
It's that time of year!

For the first time, I am behind the eightball... scrambling to rescue my CI from freezing lye baths!  @$#$!*$@$#

Tomorrow, the #3 Oval Roaster MUST be pulled!

The #11 ERIE DO was rescued 3 hours ago!
Anyone feel like stopping by and participating in the mad scramble?? ;D ;D

Clows is next on the rescue list..........yikes!

No Turkey this year! ;D ;D

Where has the last 4 months gone???? (stupid life getting in the way!)
And the heated lye bath... probably not gonna happen this year.. :'(

I have never had mine freeze.... What happens? It doesn't break them or anything like that does it?

Wasn't there a thread about weatherproofing your lye? I can't find it anymore.

Trevor, I get concerned about the freezing causing cracking of the containers... and having uncontrolled leaks.  (They don't make Rubbermaid the way they used to! :)).  Other folks say the Iron withstands the freezing... I just prefer not to validate that with a Gris #3 Oval Roaster... ::) ::) or a Clows WI.....

If I had heavy plastic barrels for my lye baths, I would worry much less.

I have a plug in, heated, 16 gallon tub, that I wrap with an insulated blanket, but I don't know if I am going to set it up this winter. (keeps the lye at a toasty 60° with the lid on...)

Update... I did get the heated lye bath up and running, and the insulated jackets put on both the heated lye bath AND the electro, and the tank de-icer into the electro.... Whew... it was a crazy week back in early December.  Now the temps have gone up, but still have not drained the outside lye baths... frozen hoses and all those headaches........ >:( C'est La Vie!

Kitchen mini tanks being put into place, and shuttle out to the deck when the temperature rises.

The holidays have been cramping my style.... After Wednesday, I'll have more room in the kitchen! :)
