Is This Rust or Fire Damage?

I can see that there's certainly rust inside, but what's the rest of the exterior coloring, rust or fire damage? Trying to educate my eye...

That is a really tough one from those pictures....  I think the lighting has a bit to do with it...
Either way, it is one heck of a mess.... the inside of the bottom... a would bet that there is MAJOR pitting AND scaling, from what I am seeing.......

That appears to be a Clean Easy lid.  If it was fire damaged, I would expect to see major damage to the coating which would appear bubbled.

I bought an Iron Mountain #8 DO that looked like that... it was, and still is quite a mess after restoring. But the lid alone is worth what I paid, so I keep my eyes open for a bottom.

I think they just did a SORRY job of cleaning it. Maybe smeared some oil on it and wiped it off Inside still has water ring in it! :o
