Chance,

You can add layers of seasoning if you like, or just keep using it. I will repeat what Claudia said, after you wipe ALL of the oil off, give it one more wipe to make sure.  ;)

Chance, also recommend starting with some other foods, other than bacon to start out the newly seasoned pan.  Sometimes the Sugars in the bacon like to stick to the new seasoning.   Cornbread works great to build new layers of seasoning on a pan. :)

What do y'all mean when you say wipe it all off?  Haha so I should season again by putting more oil on and then wipe as much off as possible before putting it in the oven or don't even out any more on?

Hi Chance, are you applying the oil to a hot pan or a cold one?

The way I do it, learned right here, is to heat the pan in stages to 500 degrees. Pull it from the oven and apply your oil of choice, I use crisco. I wear a thick pair of leather gloves, but still handle the hot pan with a folded kitchen towel. Before it goes back in the oven, wipe it off with paper towels best you can. It should look shiny, but not wet. Bake again for an hour and repeat. I do at least 3 coats, sometimes 4. This has produced very black shiny skillets for me.
What did you use to get the rust off?

All I did for the rust was the 50/50 water vinegar solution and steel wool. Came right off!
