Pieces with Wooden Handles
« on: September 12, 2014, 11:44:33 PM »
I recently acquired this flop griddle.  Now I want to season it and press it into service.  It has wooden handles, so seasoning in the oven is out.  I'm sure some WAGS members have seasoned pieces with wooden handles which cannot be removed.  What method has worked best for you?

On the grill, with handle extending outside the grill...

Although my flop griddle... the handle is removable... thank goodness...

Jim, why not try to remove the metal wire assembly with the handle.  Can't tell exactly how it's attached from the pic. Is that an option for you?

Cheryl & Randy, thanks for your ideas.  I tried removing the handle, but it is designed not to come off.  I think I will try the grill method.  It won't be as easy to regulate the temperature, but it is worth a try.

Some folks do them on the stove top... but I find the grill is much easier to regulate the temp.  Actually have a BIG piece out there cooling down now...  :)
