Some of my seasoned cast iron is rusting. Can I stop it?
« on: June 22, 2014, 08:39:40 PM »
I live in a house with no AC, and it has been pretty humid lately.

I've noticed some of my iron in the cabinets has a few specks, but my users that are in the oven or on the stove are worse.

Can I stop the rusting without reseasoning?

I assume that the pieces are users?
Try to maximize air circulation around the pieces, and minimize temperature changes that would cause condensate to form....

or... store them all in one cabinet, and purchase one of the vinyl tub style dehumidifers.......

Shane, if you are storing your pans completely dry,(free of oil) I would simply spray some cooking oil into/onto the pan and wipe it nearly dry with a paper towel. This should solve the problem of rust. Might need to check them occasionally and re-oil them as needed.

You might try wiping it down with mineral oil...

after u reseason after cooking, place them in one cabinet and use brown paper bag as protective layers between the pieces.. the bags should keep moisture down.  that is how I store all my user pieces.
