Wagner commemorative Dutch oven

Yesterday, I received a Wagner 5-quart Dutch oven from a friend. It appears to be a commemorative pice of some sort. I know that I don't have a collectors item.

Stamped on the bottom:

WAGNER'S
1891
Original
CAST IRON COOKWARE

There's seasoning instructions listed under the logo.

I also have a skillet with the same logo that I purchased new 15 to 20 years ago. The bottom of my skillet and the Dutch oven are identical.

My problem is this: I need a lid.

Does anyone know where I can find a lid for the Dutch oven?

I tried one of my Lodge lids (a #7), but it isn't a perfect fit. The Lodge lid will work, but is slides side-to-side and leaves a small opening if it isn't perfectly centered. This won't work very well for covered recipes, like pot roast.

I'm going to take the oven up to Placerville (Calif.) Hardware when I get time to see if any other Lodge lids fit. They carry a large selection of replacement lids. Placerville Hardware has helped me in the past.

Can anyone help?

Welcome Steve!  Always great to have another sailor on board.

The 1891 pieces were made from 1991-1999 and are not considered collector's pieces, well not yet.  As for a lid, I'd check Ebay, as they show up now and then, but I don't ever remember seeing the DO before on Ebay.  Any one else remember seeing any?

Did the ovens come with a glass lid or an iron lid?....I was thinking they came with glass but not sure.

I think Jerry is right. The ones I have seen had a glass lid.

Did my postdoctoral training at UC Davis in Cardiology.  My PhD comes from Thomas Jeffereson University in Philadelphia.

I believe Jerry is correct and that DO did come with a glass lid.

You might want to keep an eye on Ebay....the glass lids for wagner ovens show up pretty regular.

My BS is from Davis, 1970.  Have to say I don't miss the place but, then, I never was much interested in being a student.  Drove by there yesterday on the way home from Kansas.

I loved that place as it was so close to San Fran, Tahoe, Napa, Yosemite, etc.  YOu could snow ski on a Saturday and then water ski or gold on Sunday.

Hi all:

I've since discovered that the Wagner 1891 Original appears to be a poor design. It has a list to starboard, just like my first ship.

I made rice pilaf the other night. As I took the Dutch oven from range-top to the oven, I almost dumped the contents as the oven dropped to one side. I picked the oven up by the bail. I later check it empty to make sure that it wasn't me -- it wasn't.
