Oval Roaster

Yea, its me again  :D

Picked up another piece of iron that I can not identify.  Nothing unusual there!

The piece has an inside diameter of 13" long, 10 1/2" wide and 7 1/2" deep.  It is pretty rusted but I can make out the numbers 1300A.

The lid has 3 interior rings.  I still have not bought a digital camera but I hear they are hard to find in cast iron ;D

Thanks for the help,

Ray

Sorry Ray, I can't find that # in any of Dave's books.  Steve has a more complete list, so maybe he has the number.

Ray,
Is your pot a No.10 dutch oven with legs?   That's what the red book says for catalog No.1300.  The cover should be a flanged cover to hold coals on the top but perhaps someone has substituted a standard Wagner (are the basting rings notched?) or Griswold cover (smooth basting rings) or another type of cover.
Troy Hockensmith may be able to help you more.

Whoops, I now know what you have-I was  thinking it might be a Wagner piece but you say oval roaster so I remembered what you have.  Is the cover catalog 1301 maybe?  In any case it is not a Wagner or Griswold piece and I don't think anyone really knows who made it.  The cover resembles a Griswold cover in the details but it isn't.  Sorry I can't tell you more but the piece, while often seen, is a mystery to me as to where it came from.

It sure is an interesting shape.  I saw one last year in a store that was about this size and oval shaped just like this , but it had a nice tin/steel lid ?

Dear Jerry,

That is the one that I picked up in a friends yard.  While a little rusty it is marked 1300A.  Thanks for all your help

I have just the #1301 lid taking up space. It is lonely, and needs a good home :( If anyone is interested, contact me.

Cheers, Ellis

Just got the piece done and it came out great ;D  The lid has an i.d. number of 1301 on it.  It will be a great user as it came out of the oven perfectly.

Thanks for all the help
