I received my bean pot made by the Alabama Pipe Co. in Anniston Alabama. It is really neat. But VERY heavy. I don't think I will be able to lift it out of the oven when it is full. It weighs 17 pounds empty. Casting is very thick, and the lid has a few casting flaws. I just love it. Very unique.
Now, does anyone have a clue when these were made? The company is not extant under its current name. I know the company started in 1912 under the name of Alabama Pipe and Foundry Company, and in 1924 changed it name to Alabama Pipe Company, after consolidating new acquisitions and older properties. So I know the pot was made sometime during or after 1924, since the word "foundry" is not included in the name on the pot lid. I believe the company is out of business, as it is listed on EPA's superfund hazardous waste sites.
