Griswold Glass Oven Lid
« on: January 04, 2004, 06:01:46 PM »
I've seen the glass oven lids with Griswold on the knob, but this is my first like this, and it has a patent number.....anyone know when they made these?

And what did this one fit?

The first cover, especially, is a very nice one.  I've never seen one and probably not the second one either.  The first one went for a song considering all its markings.  Could it have been made pre-WWII and discontinued during the war with the later, non-basting Pyrex coming out after the war?

Steve,
I just be guessing, but seems to me that first lid with all the writing would be really scarce?

Do you have any idea what that little second lid would have been for?.....maybe the smaller late model oven with both logos Wagner produced?

I would say it is "REALLY, REALLY, REALLY" scarce.   Like one of a kind.  But there probably is another out there somewhere.

The second cover may be for a skillet or some other type of piece.  A casserole dish?  I don't think Griswold made any do's smaller than a 7 if even that small during the time they had glass covers made.  I guess it could have even been for an aluminum piece as could the "really scarce" glass cover.

I'm on it. Sent an email to the seller through eBay asking if they could send me some better pics.

This might be what the smaller glass lid was for?

I don't think so.  That first ebay cover is a lot older and would be for a Griswold, Erie-made piece probably c.1940-50.
