Dutch oven handle variations
« on: March 25, 2004, 02:52:55 PM »
I've been looking at old postings, which can be dangerous.

Greg had indicated that dutch oven lids with the rectangular handle attachment tend to bring more than lids with the round handle attachment.  The earlier Basters seem to have the round attachments, so I was wondering what the story was.  Were more lids produced with the round attachment, or are the rectangles just more purty?

Thanks,

Jesse

No idea why, but anytime anyone seems to ask me for a DO lid, they always want the rectanular one and not the older round one.  You of course know all cast iron collectors have peculilar tastes. ;D

Could be that the "rectangular" handles have the high domed cover while the earlier handles are on the lower dome style.   I think the higher ones are a bit more attractive and more useful and that was the set that I collected.  But I also like some of the earlier, low domed type do's like the No.7 with the slanted patent date on the bottom.
