New Pan Identification?
« on: November 14, 2004, 02:12:23 AM »
I just got this pan today and wondered if anyone can tell me who might have made it?  It is yellow enamel on the outside and Gray Enamel on the cooking side.  There is not writing on the pan that I can find.  The only characteristic would be the funny shaped heat ring on the bottom.  Also does the Electrolysis work on an enameled pan, if not, how do you clean them?

My experience with electrolysis is that it will remove paint.  So I would use a lye bath.  That way, the paint will stay intact and you will have a clean pan.  That's an odd heat ring, and I have no clue who made it.  You will have to wait until Steve gets out of bed on Sunday morning to get an answer.   [smiley=yes.gif]

Oh, my, aren't we witty on a Sunday morning.  ::)  At least MY paint didn't come off.......notice that beautiful shade of purple?  You should see me after a coat of Turtle Wax.  I'm not ashamed to have MY picture posted, unlike some other people I know (not in the Biblical sense, of course.)  And, Mr. Baggs, just how many parade floats do YOU get asked to sit on?

I'm going back to bed after seeing that pan.  It needs sleep, too, or something.  Never seen a heat squiggle like it unless I just don't remember.  Possibly a European pan?  Like Le Crueset, etc.  A not-to-long dip in lye should be ok.  Don't know about the electrolysis.  Ask Greg.  I think he's back tomorrow.

I kind of wondered if it was a foreign pan.  I think I've seen some made in Holland or somewhere like that, but I thought someone might know for sure.  So I can dip it in lye for a while without hurting it?

After looking at that pic. I don't think anything is really going to hurt it. It can only go up.
Hold still rabbit, so I can cook you.

it's not paint, is it?  it is porcelain, I believe and the electrobath would not hurt it.

Yes as far as I can tell it is porcelin.  I just wondered if you could get conductivity through the porcelin?

Sounds like an experiment that needs to be tried.  Since one side is not covered you should get conductivity, but will that clean the coated side?  Folks want to know, LOL, well I want to know. ;D

All the sides are covered.  The outside is yellow porcelin and the inside is gray porcelin.

Electro won't work then.  Try short bath times in lye.

I don' have the pan clean yet, but I did see the number 22 on the bottom of it.  I know that won't really help with the identification, but at least I've seen something on the bottom of it.

Le Creuset uses "weird" numbers for there pans.   Not necessarily size.  But kind of a modern "pattern" number.
