W/W Sandwich Toster
« on: November 20, 2004, 07:51:40 PM »
On page #254 of blue book (Griswold & Wagner) the base of the sandwich toaster in the photo looks like it might be (low base) 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" high? I seen one that was  2 1/4" high. Now is there a low & a high base sandwich toaster? would one be harder to find than the outher? and does anybody have a low or high base WW sandwich toaster?

I had two different Wagner sandwich toasters years ago with different height bases.  The height difference was not a great deal but something like 1/4 to 1/2".  One had wood handles and the other had wire coil handles.   And I think one was unmarked but obviously made by Wagner and, I think, also had a catalog number.   I don't remember if the bases and irons were interchangeable or slightly different in size or which of the two irons had the higher base.  These are pretty rare pieces it seems.

Cooooool!   I have never seen one of these.  Sounds like a must have since I am rather fond of grilled cheese sandwiches.

As for our house, we always figured that was what griddles were made for... [smiley=yes.gif] Wife's Grandmother gave us one for a wedding present 30 years ago and it is WELL seasoned [smiley=yes.gif]

Does the Greg Stahl Line of cookware make any cast Iron inserts for My george forman? That's what I grill my Sami's on.  Once I get the old electro bath hooked up I am going to take one apart and see If I can strip the Teflon off. It is half of my old one anyhow. Grilled Cheese and Teflon, yuck...

Clark,   I happen to have both. The low base measures 1 3/8 and the high base is 2 1/4 in height. They seem to be fully interchangeable as both toaster paddles have the same pattern numbers (1455). As Steve mentioned these are both kind of hard to find. I also remember some conversation concerning size with regard to the square waffle iron bases. These are not interchangeable as the square waffle iron paddles are about a full inch larger.... Hope this helps... Tom

Tom, thanks for your reply very much, I though the one in the blue book was smaller than mine. I now have 2 sets of paddles and one 2.25" base. thanks for the photo and good looking pup. I can see that he is about 1 3/8" tall.
